The Northern Bobwhite, Grasslands and Savannas Partner Website is for information sharing by technical experts within NRCS and among its partners.
Working Lands for Wildlife: Northern Bobwhite, Grasslands and Savannas Framework for Conservation Action
by Web Editor, last updated: Jul 15, 2025 03:57 PM
Working Lands for Wildlife: Northern Bobwhite, Grasslands and Savannas Framework for Conservation Action is a 2022 publication by NRCS capturing a long-term, large landscape conservation plan to recover central and eastern grasslands for northern bobwhite and other wildlife species. To support the win-win approach of WLFW, this framework also includes anticipated outcomes for risk management and revenue enhancements for agricultural/forestry operations, as well as measured outcomes for greenhouse gas (GHG) mitigation.

Southeast FireMap
by Tab Manager, last updated: Jul 15, 2025 01:27 PM
Fire is a critical but little-known part of landscapes across the southeastern United States. The Southeast (SE) FireMap is a tool that aims to address this gap by helping users accurately track and understand fire patterns across the Southeast.
SE FireMap
by Tab Manager, last updated: Jul 15, 2025 12:48 PM
Accurately tracking and understanding wildland fire patterns across the Southeastern U.S. is a critical need identified by a consortium of conservation partners. The SE FireMap is a new product developed in 2020-21 to meet these needs, and funded by the USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service's Working Lands for Wildlife program under an agreement with the U.S. Endowment for Forestry and Communities.

A collection of information on fire mapping efforts across the Southeastern U.S. and elsewhere in the U.S., with short-term emphasis on the SE FireMap, a new effort funded by USDA's Natural Resources Conservation Service to 1) investigate fire mapping efforts to date in the U.S. and learn from previous efforts while exploring new or emerging technologies and 2) develop a multi-state fire map for the SE U.S. by 2023 to be used in future decision-support regarding both regional prescribed burn efforts and wildfire risk management.
Eastern Deciduous Forest Health
by Tab Manager, last updated: Jul 15, 2025 12:01 PM
Forest management affects wildlife habitat by altering the structure and composition of vegetation communities. Every wildlife species uses a specific set of resources associated with different species and ages of forest trees (e.g., nesting cavities, den sites, acorn crops, fruit resources) to survive and reproduce. Forest managers, wildlife conservation groups, policy makers, and other stakeholders often need to review the literature on forest bird-vegetation relationships to inform decisions on natural resource management or ecosystem restoration.
Wildland Fire
by Tab Manager, last updated: Jul 15, 2025 11:55 AM
The Wildland Fire site within the Landscape Partnership portal serves as a clearinghouse to support technical experts as a community of practice, currently focused on the southern states. This site links individuals and diverse groups with the information each maintains on wildland fire on their respective internet sites, and our hope is that we will send more traffic to our partners' sites.

WLFW East Region Conservation Webinar Series: Northern Bobwhite Session #11 “Bobwhites in Working Grazing Land in Eastern Kentucky”
by Web Editor, last updated: Jul 14, 2025 04:19 PM
Session 11 of the “Northern Bobwhite” mini-series was presented by Doug Mitchell with the University of Tennessee. This session focuses on research done in eastern Kentucky on pasture lands. They looked at the differences for bobwhite probability of use in cool season grass pastures vs native warm season grass pastures as well as some other variables. Topics covered include methods for trapping and vegetation surveys and results of the study.
